Onegai Shimasu Hanshi, Kyoshi, Sensei, Sempai, and fellow Deshi,
Ueshiro Shorin Ryu Karate USA is running and in full swing at the High School for Leadership and Public Service. We hold classes twice a week Tuesdays from 3:30-5 PM and Fridays from 3-4:30 PM.
We have a small but consistent group this year. A new addition to my club this year is the chance for students to earn Physical Education credit by taking Ueshiro Shorin Ryu USA Karate classes. During the fall term several students took advantage of this unique opportunity. A number of new students are taking advantage of this during our spring term.
On Friday, February 13, 2009, we held our first tip-test of the 2008-2009 school year. All of the students showed tremendous effort and resolve. Kyoshi Michael Mackay honored us by leading our workout and tip-test. This was a particularly special day for it was the first time we were able to have guests at our school. During the tip-test Damien Jackson was promoted to Ro-Kyu and Fran Wu was promoted to Go-Kyu. I would also like to thank John Robbins, Hend Elsayed, and James Gasca from Midtown for showing up and helping out during this great workout.
Additionally, I’d like to thank our principal Lawrence Pendergast for stopping by to see our tip-test in progress. Mr. Pendergast has opened up the doors of Leadership in a very welcoming way to our Shorin Ryu family and has given me permission to have visitors to my club. If you wish to join my students and me for a workout just let me know ahead of time so I can give our security your name.
Thank you to Master Ueshiro for putting us on this wonderful path and to Hanshi Scaglione for keeping us on it. |
