Onegai-Shimasu Hanshi, Kyoshi, Sensei, and all Deshi,
Ueshiro Merritt Island Karate Club is located at Tropical Elementary with classes being conducted in the Physical Education room. Classes are held every Tuesday and Friday from 3:30pm to 4:00pm. The Friday’s class is now geared for “advanced students.” Our definition of “advanced student” is Ro-Kyu and higher. This has worked out very well, as the children realize the prestige associated being considered an “advanced student.” |

During the month of February we had the following students promoted:
· Orlando Loveras and Travis George earned the rank of Go-Kyu.
· Tim Calvert earned the rank of Yellow Belt.
· Jordan Tomberlin earned the rank of San-Kyu.
My thanks go to Hanshi for allowing Orlando to test with his students at Viera and to Sensei Des Chaskelson for allowing Travis, Tim, and Jordan to test with his students in Cocoa Beach.

Domo Arigato Hanshi for your advice and suggestions as to the most effective way of teaching karate to elementary school age children.
Domo Arigato Sensei Connie Rutkowski for agreeing to teach the Friday afternoon advanced class. Unfortunately, many of my students don’t have the opportunity to visit our other karate locations, so thank you Sensei for bringing your teaching skills to them.
Arigato to Sempai Kevin Tezel, Ni-Kyu, for serving as an assistant instructor and acting as a model to the younger students who may be a little intimidated by the prospect of stepping out onto the karate deck.
